Homie Mail file server move 2009-11-05 10pm pacific

As part of our rack consolidation efforts we will be moving two four of the file servers which provide storage for homie mail on Wednesday 2009-11-04 2009-11-05 at 10pm pacific. This will result in some downtime for customers on those file servers. The file servers we’re moving are milesaway, fromordinary, tastesgreat, and lessfilling. The estimated downtime for this move is approximately 2 3 hours, during which time your incoming mail will simply queue up on our mail servers waiting to be delivered.

We thank you for your patience and apologize in advance for any inconvenience this downtime may cause.

Update — Wed Nov 4 18:00:53 PST 2009, we have postponed this move until tomorrow night. The post date reflects the new maintenance window 2009-11-05 22:00:00 – 2009-11-06 00:00:00. We apologize for the short notice change in plans.

Update — Thu Nov 5 22:02:58 PST 2009, we are beginning the moves now. We will post an update here once everything is finished! Thank you for your patience and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Update — Fri Nov 6 02:06 PST 2009 The moved mail servers are back up, but an issue with our authentication servers was just identified.  We’re working on a resolution now and will update this post when everything is working again.  Thank you for your patience during this time.

Update — Fri Nov 6 07:11 PST 2009 – The lingering authentication issues are now resolved.  We truly apologize for the inconvenience.  If you are still having issues with any of your hosted email accounts, please contact Support and they will be very happy to assist.

Update — Fri Nov 6 8:00 PST 2009 – We sincerely apologize, as there is still an issue with one of the mail servers in the Homie cluster that is causing email/webmail downtime.  We are resolving this issue as I type this, so we expect it to be resolved shortly.  Again, our deepest apologies about this continuing issue.

Update — Fri Nov 6 11:20 PST 2009 – We believe we have identified the problem, and are working on the resolution. We’ll update this post again with any progress made.

Update — Fri Nov 6 1pm PST 2009 – The problem causing authentication, sending and receiving issues on your mail servers are now resolved. We’ve been testing numerous accounts in the past hour to make sure, and everything appears to be working again. You may experience short delays – connections may clog up a bit initially due to the rush of sending and receiving after the services were restored. If you’re waiting for mail that was sent to you during the data migration, those are being queued either on the sender’s server or on our incoming mail servers, and should be delivered shortly – unless they bounced back to the sender immediately after the first try. Sorry again about the inconvenience this mail downtime has caused. If you’re still having problems with your mail, please submit a support ticket with details, so we can look into it for you.
